Cradle Mountain - Sheffield - Launceston

*Leaves on a Tuesday

Journey north from Hobart through the pioneering townships of Kempton, Ross, and Campbell Town and be immersed in the world of wool at Casaveen knitwear in Oatlands where you can meet the woolgrowers and designers, peruse their delightful gift pantry and watch as their famous textiles are created whilst enjoying a sumptuous morning tea. Continue northwest through lush countryside to 41degrees South Tasmania salmon and ginseng farm in Deloraine and enjoy the bounty of birdlife that thrive at the property’s wetlands. Visit Metila Honey Farm and Silk and Roses shops at Chudleigh for delicious tastings of flavoured honey and ice-cream creations, before you arrive beneath the towering peak of Cradle Mountain where you can choose to stretch your legs on one of Tasmania’s premier walks around Dove Lake. Overnight in Cradle Country at the foot of Mount Roland in picturesque Sheffield, world famous for its fifty-plus Murals painted around the township, and its locally grown Roland Rump steaks served up at the historic Sheffield hotel.

In the morning enjoy a leisurely stroll about town taking photographs with plenty of time for gift shopping for hand crafted glassware, art, antiques and collectibles and naughty old fashioned sweets. Travel east through rolling green farmlands to the Ashgrove Cheese factory and experience a behind the scenes look at traditional cheese production married with a tasting of creamy farm cheese and milk products. Further along the road indulge in freshly brewed coffee at the bustling Christmas Hills Raspberry farm café and be tempted by a selection of chocolate-coated raspberries, ice creams and delicious jams and sauces to take with you. Relax in comfort as you wind your way along the banks of the Tamar River and step out for a close encounter with Australia’s wackiest mammal and fabled sea creatures at Platypus House and Seahorse World. After lunch experience the natural wonder of Launceston’s Cataract Gorge walking across the giant swing bridge or travel on what’s believed to be the worlds longest span chairlift, above ancient rocks and the swirling South Esk River. Launceston offers one of the most intact early cityscapes in Australia and your day is complete with a short tour of these vibrant Georgian streetscapes and delightful views of the city.
